This is a  project  of  3  ha. of a new boutique vineyard  with Malbec, Sauvignon Blanc and  Pais strains in the beautiful Valley of Caleu, one hour drive to the North West of Santiago. I offer  stay for up to 4 volunteers - mainly students and well educated adults, looking after  Nature and willing to share their knowledge with kindergarten and  basic education local students.   A plus is a fondness for sports such as running, trekking, horseback riding, mountaineering, chess... and wine tasting, of course.  Good sense of humor and "hands on" is a must. Only requirement: NO drugs and  NO smoking. From 2017 we added a group 4 fillies of the Chilean Breed horses to start  rational horse taming and training.  The principle is not only to be kind to each other us humans but also to animals and particularly the horses. We face a Natural Sanctuary of an ancient white oak tree forest and the Aconcagua Mountain, in the Andes. There is accommodation in a farmhouse - in restoration - in two  rooms with cabins, shared bathroom and kitchen with gas stove. Foods will be delivered to prepare your own meals.

I had originally planned on staying in at Viña Caleu for 3.5 weeks in late Feb - March 2016. However, 3.5 weeks was not enough. I loved it so much, I went back for another week in April.

Alvaro was a very kind and thoughtful host who truly took care of his WWOOFers. Groceries were always provided, and the wine was plentiful. I stayed in a beautiful farmhouse in the most comfortable bed which always felt quite welcoming after a hot, long day of farmwork. My work entailed watering the plants and pulling weeds from the vineyard in preparation of next round of grapes. My Co-WWOOFer and I stripped the paint off of another house and the rest of my time was spent cleaning up the natural cross country course that has been designed in Caleu by both Alvaro, and his right hand man, Nelson. Nelson and his brother Giyo were extremely welcoming and pleasant to work along side of, as they were funny, brilliant, and patient with me when it came to practicing my Spanish.

I learned a lot while I was in Caleu - how wine is produced, how to teach English to middle schoolers, and most importantly, I learned a lot about myself. Caleu is a little piece of heaven in Chile and if given the opportunity, I would love to return.

We had a lovely stay in Caleu with Alvaro during the month of December and returned again for 2 weeks in April. He takes care of his guests intently while also giving them the freedom to discover their own special connection to Caleu. It is a beautiful spot, and we worked mostly alongside his caretaker, Nelson. Nelson is kind and patient and very knowledgeable. We have loved both of our stays in Caleu and become very close with the host as well as the community.
